Superfluous Pretty: Photographs by Derek Workman

Derek Workman is a writer, editor, and photographer based in Botswana, where he is the founding editor of The Kalahari Review . Born in Texas and raised in part in Kenya, he has spent much of his life living and working in different places. This series focuses on Botswana’s neighborhood tuck shops—small, locally built stores made from available materials and shaped by the needs of their communities. Painted in whatever colors are at hand, they reflect everyday life as it is lived. Workman’s photographs capture their color, as well as the people and stories that gather around them. Accessibility Notice : We strive to make our events accessible. To request a disability accommodation and/or language services, contact the department listed in the "Contact Info" pane on the right.
