Author Talk: Stephanie Schorow – A Boston Harbor Islands Adventure: The Great Brewster Journal of 1891

Stephanie Schorow discusses her book, A Boston Harbor Islands Adventure: The Great Brewster Journal of 1891. In 1891, four women from Lowell sailed to Brewster Island in Boston Harbor and roughed it there for 17 days, wading in the water, collecting driftwood, boiling lobsters on the beach—and documenting it all. They kept a journal filled with poetic descriptions, photographs, and exquisite watercolors. The journal remained anonymous—the women referring to themselves as “Ye Square Partie” or “The Merrie Trippers”—until a team of volunteers from the Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands, led by author Stephanie Schorow, uncovered their names. Join Stephanie Schorow as she explores the journal’s entries and recounts the research undertaken by her team. The talk will be accompanied by a special display of Boston Harbor postcards. You may attend in person at the Hyde Park Branch, or join the meeting remotely via this link .
