Artists often explore themes of identity\, spirituality\, and the blending of cultures through their work. \nThe Cuban Revolution of 1959 also had a significant impact on the art scene. We seek a responsive health care center that can begin to provide services\ntailored to the diverse needs of our community\, assisting those lacking health care options and\ndealing with maternal health\, chronic health\, and mental health issues. \n● Hyde Park had the highest infant mortality rate of any Boston neighborhood from 2012 –\n2021 (7.8 deaths per 1\,000 live births). The neighboring community of Roslindale had\nthe lowest infant mortality rate in the city (2.4 deaths per 1\,000 live births). \n● The burden of mental health illness in our community is significant – the percentage of\nHyde Park residents reporting anxiety\, 23.1%\, is over 9% greater than the city at large\nand Hyde Park’s suicide rate per 100\,000 people of 7%\, is 9.6% higher than the city at\nlarge. \n● 13.2% of Hyde Park residents have a disability\, over 5\,000 people \n● The rate of hospital encounters for asthma for Hyde Park residents is over 8% greater\nthan for the city at large. \n● Currently\, 9\,000 people in Hyde Park live below the federal poverty level\n.\n● Hyde Park has a higher percentage of both renters (49%) and homeowners (30%) who\nare more Housing Cost Burdened than those in the city at large. \n● Hyde Park has a significantly diverse makeup of the neighborhood\, which is 45.7 %\nBlack\, 24.7% Latino\, 21.9% White\, 2.2% Asian\, and 4.2% people of two or more races.\nThis substantiates the need for culturally relevant\, responsive\, and accessible health\ncare. \n● The recent closure of a nearby hospital has expanded the medical desert in the\ncommunity and created further urgency for a community health care center \nIt is essential that we bring services closer to home. Her memoir noir\, Mi’ja\, received the 2024 International Latino Book Award\, in the autobiography category. In 2019 she received the Latinas 50 Plus Literature Award at Fordham University and the Latinx Excellence on the Hill Award from the Black and Latino Legislative Caucus of MA at the State House. Her solo play on iconoclastic Puerto Rican labor leader\, activist\, feminist and journalist Luisa Capetillo\, (October 28\, 1879 – April 10\, 1922) is included in The Routledge Companion to Latine Theatre and Performance (2024). Ms. Gómez has been a volunteer writer for An African American Point of View for over fourteen years. She was the Co-founder and Artistic Director of Springfield’s first intergenerational Latinx theater\, Teatro V!da and the youth open mic series\, Ign!te the M!c – from 2006 – 2020. She also initiated and helped launch the first public  LGBTQIA2S+ open mic series in Western Massachusetts at the Bing Arts Center. She is currently working on the sequel to her memoir\, a new collection of poetry\, and a new multi-media solo show based on her memoir. This contemporary dance work challenges the societal norms that often encourage us to suppress or compartmentalize our feelings\, instead celebrating the beauty of authenticity while inviting viewers to embrace their own identities and express their emotions without fear or judgment. \nThroughout this approximately 30-min performance\, the dancers embody the intersection of shame and pride\, love and grief\, anxiety and excitement\, carefully holding space for the many contradictions and paradoxes that make up the human experience. Adam Matthew’s original composition blends ballads\, acoustic guitar interludes\, and electric guitar jams to match the range of emotion presented physically. \nThe evening begins with a chocolate meditation (do we have your interest piqued?) followed by a prelude of community-built choreography made during workshop series. The performance will be followed by a short Q&A with the students and artists. \nCome feel it all. \nThis presentation is made possible in part by a Community Building Mini Grant from the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. \nAbout the Choreographer: \nANGELINA BENITEZ graduated from Salem State University with a B.A in both Modern/Contemporary Dance and has since studied at Bates Dance Festival and continues to study with local Boston-based artists. Her choreography at Salem State was presented at Boston’s American College Dance Association Conference and earned her a Presidential Arts Scholarship and a Creativity Award in Dance. Angie has immersed herself in teaching dance in the Greater Boston area at local studios\, schools\, and residencies. Her recent performance experience includes local arts festivals and events such as Verse / Visual\, 24 Hour ChoreoFest\, Salem Arts Festival\, Art Walk with Luminarium\, and more. Much of her work is focused on collaboration. When she’s not teaching dance\, you can find her working as a social media strategist\, creating fiber art\, and taking pole dance classes. \nAbout the Dancers: \nALEXANDRIA NUNWEILER is a contemporary choreographer\, performer\, administrator and educator based in Boston\, MA. Her movement is rooted in history\, human experience\, and the fine line between darkness and humor. Alexandria earned her B.A. in Dance from Winthrop University. Alexandria works within The Click and with Alive Dance Collective as the Director of Development\, performer and choreographer. She currently teaches at Creative Steps Dance Studio in Newton\, MA and is a recurring guest artist at Dance Theatre of Greenville in South Carolina. \nKATRINA CONTE is a dancer and choreographer based in Boston MA. She attended the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts in Mt Pocono PA. Katrina graduated with her BFA in Dance with a minor in Technical Theater from Ball State University. She is working administratively at the Boston Center for the Arts and dancing with The Click\, Alive Dance Collective and Luminarium Dance. \nAbout the Musician: \nADAM MATTHEW is a guitarist and songwriter local to the North Shore. He’s been playing and performing for over 20 years. He has studied music at the New School in New York and with artists including David Schumacher and Joel Yennior. A resident of Newburyport for many years\, Adam has played at many local favorites such as the Grog\, The Barking Dog\, The Sunset Club\, Plum Island Grille\, and the Grove at the Briar Bar Inn. \nAbout The Click: \nDeveloped in 2021\, The Click is a collaborative dance company and creative collective in Greater Boston. Its members are dancers whose primary medium of physical expression is through contemporary dance forms\, but who experiment in many modes and genres of creativity.
