SUMMARY:MAC Spring Concert Series 2026 – Queer Ensemble Project
DESCRIPTION:Queer Ensemble Project\nQueer Ensemble Project\, founded by Mina Kim and Sam Kelder in 2024\, is an initiative to uplift and celebrate queer artistry in the greater Boston area; to bring to the forefront LGBTQ+ performers and composers\, amplify their individual voices; and start conversations between performers and audience with the ambition of building a stronger community around music – particularly audiences of LGBTQ+ youth and elders who may experience the need for community the greatest. Sam Kelder and Sergio I. Muñoz Leiva will play at the MAC. https://queerensembleproject.org \nSam: Praised by the Boston Globe as a “committed and dynamic” performer\, violist Dr. Samuel Kelder’s interpretations of contemporary repertoire and virtuosic technique have led him to become a sought after soloist and chamber musician\, traveling widely to work with many prominent artists and ensembles of today. Sam is a member of Sound Icon\, Boston Modern Orchestra Project\, Callithumpian Consort\, East Coast Contemporary Ensemble\, and founding member of Shizuka Viola Duo; and is a frequent guest artist with chamber ensembles across the East Coast. Sam is a frequent chamber collaborator with the Outer Cape Chamber Festival\, Galatea Chamber Series\, Sandbar Chamber Series\, and Appalachian Chamber Music Festival. An equally accomplished orchestral musician\, he is principal violist of the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra\, section violist of Portland Symphony\, New Bedford Symphony\, and the Boston Festival Orchestra. \nSergio: Sergio I. Muñoz Leiva is a Chilean violist committed to building community through music. A versatile performer\, his repertoire spans from early Baroque to contemporary music. He has appeared at Carnegie Hall\, Alice Tully Hall\, The Metropolitan Museum\, Jordan Hall\, and the National Opera House of Chile. His musical mentors include Penelope Knuth\, Kim Kashkashian\, and Carol Rodland. He holds degrees from the New England Conservatory\, Eastman School of Music\, and The Juilliard School. Muñoz Leiva is Director of Chamber Music at College of the Holy Cross and is Music Theory Instructor at Project STEP.

SUMMARY:MAC Spring Concert Series 2026 - Charles Coe Tribute with b.mez
DESCRIPTION:Charles Coe Tribute with b.mez\nJoin us for an evening of Charles’ poetry read by his colleagues\, accompanied by backing music from b.mez. Poets who will read are: Amy Alvarez\, Toni Bee\, Linda Carney-Goodrich\, Matthew Henry\, Aidan Parkinson and Cecily Miller. \nCharles Coe (1952-2025) was a noted writer and poet with several published collections. Mr. Coe received a fellowship in poetry from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and was selected by the Associates of the Boston Public Library as a “Boston Literary Light in 2014.”. He spent 2017 as an Artist-in-Residence for the city of Boston\, creating a project that collected oral histories of people who live and work in Boston’s Mission Hill neighborhood. He served as poet-in-residence at Wheaton College and at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York and taught in Dingle\, Ireland for the Bay Path University MFA Abroad program. He was also an adjunct professor of English at Salve Regina University in Newport\, Rhode Island\, teaching poetry and non fiction. Coe and Ken Field of b mez collaborated on an acclaimed music & poetry project titled “A Symphony of Crickets” from 2022-2024. https://www.charlescoe.org \nb.mez is a project developed by 3 members of Birdsongs of the Mesozoic: Michael Bierylo\, Ken Field\, & Rick Scott\, joined by Roger Miller\, the original co-founder of Birdsongs.  In May 2019\, the group had the opportunity to record for three days at Hearstudios in Camden\, Maine. The results appear on the Cuneiform Records album “Under Circuitous Skies\,” released February 27\, 2026\, and available at https://cuneiformrecords.bandcamp.com/album/under-circuitous-skies. The music of b.mez is completely improvised\, and each piece takes the listener on a journey\, sometimes calm\, other times aggressive\, a balance of consonance and dissonance where nothing is gratuitous. While electronics play a big part in the sound\, it doesn’t come across as electronic. Looping and effect processing are a part of each player’s voice\, extending their inherent musical sensibility without sublimating it. Their music represents a coherent musical statement\, true to the players’ instincts as they manifest themselves in each performance. https://bmez.live

Spelling his name with lower case letters\, he signifies being a smaller component in the larger energy of love; it is also an ode to feminist great and author\, the incomparable bell hooks. jamele is a frequent and highly regarded figure in dismantling injustice\, bringing light to darkness and uplifting communities.  He is a recipient of multiple national competitions\, sought after humanitarian  recognitions and has been recently awarded the coveted “Tree Of Life “ award. \n \nGale Batchelder’s poems have been published in Tupelo Quarterly\, Pangyrus\, Colorado Review\, SpoKe4\, Lily Poetry Review\, and in the poetry anthologies New Smoke (2009) and Triumph of Poverty (2011)\, from Off the Park Press. Her collaborative manuscript Chalk Song (with Judson Evans and Susan Berger-Jones) was published in 2022 by Lily Poetry Review Books. She resides in Cambridge\, MA. \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n \nJudson Evans teaches Humanities at Berklee College of Music\, and serves as Co-Editor (with Lew Watts ) of Haibun for ‘Frogpond.’ the Journal of the Haiku Society of America. He was chosen as an “emerging poet” for Academy of American Poet s by John Yau in 2007. He has published two collaborative books of poetry\, Chalk Song with Susan Berger-Jones and Gale Batchelder\, (Lily Poetry Press\, 2022)\, and Gear with the accompanying book of photographs Remote Viewing by Ray Klimek (Meshwork Press\, 2023). \n\n  \n\n \nMichelle “LaPoetica” Richardson is a bilingual spoken word artist\, creative leader\, and the first-ever Poet Laureate of Lynn\, Massachusetts. With over 300 performances spanning more than two decades\, she has used poetry as a tool for healing\, empowerment\, and connection. She is the founder of DENCITY\, a platform that uplifts underrepresented voices through open mics\, youth programming\, and public art. Her work has been recognized by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus\, State House\, Senate\, and even the United States Congress. Michelle doesn’t just perform poetry—she builds spaces where people feel seen\, heard\, and valued.

SUMMARY:MAC Spring Concert Series: Britt Connors Trio
DESCRIPTION:Britt Connors grew up surrounded by music of all kinds: the folk\, rock\, and jazz of her parents\, the classical of her grandparents\, and the pop of 80’s and 90’s radio. As such\, the music she writes and plays is as eclectic as her background. After graduating from Ithaca College with a degree in vocal performance and teaching voice lessons for a year\, she moved to Somerville\, MA with the sole purpose of learning guitar\, crafting her first songs\, and finding her place in the Boston music scene. Along the way\, she met and married celebrated drummer Mike Connors\, who has played in her band since 2008. Her three albums\, The Bad Side of Good (released under her maiden name of Sawdon)\, Warmer Season (under Britt Connors and Bourbon Renewal)\, and Longitude (also available on vinyl) have celebrated her wide-ranging interests and influences\, slipping nimbly and authentically between soulful ballads\, pop-rock\, and gospel-infused Americana. Her fourth work\, a 6-song EP called Exhalewas released at the end of 2024 and reflects some of her influences\, from Bonnie Raitt to Deb Talan and from Aimee Mann to Jason Isbell. Her stellar band of Boston greats\, including Andrew Stern (guitar)\, Ed Lucie (bass)\, Bethany Weiman (cello)\, James Rohr (keys)\, and horn section led by Jerry Sabatini (trumpet) is featured on each track. For May 8th at MAC\, she’ll be joined by her most frequent bandmates and collaborators: Ed Lucie and Mike Connors.

DESCRIPTION:Highway Hosiery is the duo project of Elizabeth Steen (accordion) and Jude Heichelbech (cello). Steen is a seasoned accordionist/keyboardist who has played and toured along with Natalie Merchant\, Tanya Donelly\, and Billy Bragg among others\, and Heichelbech is a mostly self-taught multi-instrumentalist and visual artist. Together\, they pen catchy tunes about trial\, love and other oddities that span pop\, jazz\, rock and roots\, with a slant born out of their deep Pennsyltucky upbringings. Both are the daughters of English professors and musicians\, and have occupied the same seat at the keyboards for Count Zero. Their sound is defined by deep collaboration\, dynamic group interplay\, and a spirit of spontaneity—reflected even in their name\, which combines the last syllables of each member’s name. \nOver the past 15 years\, Man On Land has cultivated a loyal following through engaging and uplifting performances at more than a dozen Boston venues and concert series\, including The Mad Monkfish\, The Beehive\, Jazz Sundays at the Square Root\, and the Eliot Schoolyard Series. Their 2025 album release concert with Mandorla Music was a sold-out event. \nMan On Land’s latest album\, Echo the Hills (April 2025)\, features acclaimed saxophonist Lihi Haruvi\, whose stunning tone and captivating playing have made her an in-demand artist across the globe. The album highlights the group’s versatility and imagination\, drawing inspiration from a wide spectrum of influences—including Chick Corea\, Ornette Coleman\, Nirvana\, and Cole Porter—while showcasing the quartet’s vibrant connection.
